![]() When Cole was four years old, the family moved to Chicago, Illinois, where his father, Edward Coles, became a Baptist minister. Each of the Coles brothers pursued careers in music. Despite achieving mainstream success, during his career he faced intense racial discrimination. Starting in 1950 he transitioned to become a solo singer billed as Nat King Cole. After decades as a grindhouse and adult movie venue, the theater was closed in 2000, only to lay dormant for several years.
